http://stivers.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=362090 Steve Stivers: Under Obamacare, you can’t keep what you have 2013-11-19 2013 2013-11 Republican House OH Steve Stivers S001187 stivers.house.gov     legacy The American people deserve health care that is affordable, reliable, and allows them to keep the doctor and insurance they like. Unfortunately, that is not what we are seeing as the new health care law is being implemented. On October 1, 2013, the Obamacare web site went live. Since that time, there have been nothing but glitches and troubles surrounding this new system, including: web site errors, increased premium costs, and people losing their current insurance and doctor. There have been problems signing up through the web site since the beginning.  Only six people in the entire nation were able to sign up on HealthCare.gov the first day, and in the first month only 1,150 Ohioans signed up.  While I don’t support the health care law, it should have been an obligation and priority for the Administration to ensure the system that they created actually functioned properly.  There are people who are relying on getting their health care through the exchange, and the system needed to be up and working for them on day one.  The Administration should have also been honest about the impact of the law.  The President stated, “If you like your health-care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health-care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.” But there have been at least 3.5 million Americans who have received cancellation notices for their insurance policies since the launch of Obamacare.   I have personally heard from constituents who were happy with their insurance, but they lost their current plan due to the new regulations included in the health care law. That is unacceptable. Which is why last week, I voted in support of the “Keep Your Health Plan Act.” This bill would allow Americans to keep their health insurance plans that are currently available on the individual market.  The legislation passed the House last week and is currently under consideration by the Senate.   While I believe that we must work to replace the health care law moving forward, we must act now to ensure Americans can keep the health insurance plans they are happy with.  It is what was promised to them. In my opinion, the largest problem with health care today is cost.  Any plan to address the health care system must address the cost issue head-on.  However, under Obamacare, Ohioans will pay on average $200 more a month for individual insurance coverage.  We need to introduce commonsense reforms that will actually lower costs such as: tort reform, providing flexibility by expanding health savings accounts, and promoting healthier lifestyle choices. I have serious concerns about the health care law, and I believe the American people deserve better.  That is why I have voted to defund, repeal, and replace Obamacare more than 40 times during my time in Congress.  I would like to hear your thoughts on the health care law.  You can share your thoughts by visiting my web site at: www.stivers.house.gov and clicking the “Share Your Obamacare Story” button.
