WASHINGTON Earlier this month, Congressman Steve Stivers (R-OH) announced his nomination of eight students from Fairfield County to the United States military academies. One of the highest honors I have as a Member of Congress is the opportunity to nominate ambitious, outstanding young leaders to the United States military academies, Stivers said. These students are some of the best and brightest of their generation, and I am thankful for their decision to invest in America's future. I am confident they will apply their high educational, moral, and physical standards to serve our country well and make Ohio's 15th District proud. Stivers nominated the following students: Ian Wolfe was nominated to the Air Force Academy. Wolfe attends Bloom-Carroll High School and is the son of Heath and Jennifer Wolfe. Luke Gornall was nominated to the Air Force Academy and the Merchant Marine Academy. He attends Fairfield Union High School and is the son of John and Laura Gornall. Cassady Cubra was nominated to the Air Force Academy and the Naval Academy. She attends Pickerington Central High School and is the daughter of Robert and Cristina Cubra. Owen Snyder was nominated to the Air Force Academy. He is the son of Ryan and Andrea Snyder and attends Lancaster High School. Colby Baker was nominated to West Point and Merchant Marine Academy. Baker attends Pickerington North High School and is the son of Craig and Kristina Baker. Jacob Smith was nominated to the Naval Academy. Smith graduated from Pickerington North High School, and is currently attending the Naval Academy Preparatory School. Jacob is the son of Ryan and Andrea Snyder. Spencer White was nominated to the Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, and West Point. White attends Pickerington North High School and is the son of Brian and Rebecca White. David Cassady was nominated to the Naval Academy. Cassady attends Wheaton High School in Virginia and is the son of Michael and Rohini Cassady. To receive a service academy nomination from Congressman Stivers, candidates must be unmarried residents of Ohio's 15th Congressional District, United States citizens and between the ages of 17 and 23. In pursuit of a nomination, students submitted an application and were interviewed by Congressman Stivers' Military Academy Review Board. The Board evaluates the students on the basis of academic performance, leadership ability, and community involvement. Congressman Stivers is exceedingly grateful to all of the nominees for their willingness to serve, and to the Military Academy Review Board for all their time in interviewing the students and making recommendations.
