Brooks (R-IN5) released the following statement after voting in favor of House Resolution 3350 – the Keep Your Health Plan Act – which allows health insurance plans currently offered through the individual marketplace to be offered through 2014: “More than 3.5 million Americans on the individual marketplace have seen their healthcare plans cancelled because of Obamacare. By giving insurance companies the flexibility to renew cancelled plans for one more year, the Keep Your Health Plan Act will help some of these individuals regain the coverage they want and need. However, the ultimate truth is simple: because of Obamacare these people will eventually lose their plans. This is simply not acceptable. President Obama made a tremendous error when he told the American people they could keep their health insurance if they liked it. This statement is clearly a broken promise and he has since apologized. But apologies aren’t enough when people’s access to quality and affordable healthcare is hanging in the balance. Apologies aren’t enough when people are forced to spend hours trying to replace cancelled insurance on a web site that is woefully inadequate. This is no time for pride, it’s time for action. It’s time to start over and work on sensible reforms that increase access to quality and affordable care. 5th District Hoosiers continue to reach out to me at public forums, on the phone, through the mail and via social media to share their frustrations with Obamacare. This is the number one issue they talk to me about because too many of them have lost coverage, lost work hours or been otherwise victimized by the careless implementation of this law. They deserve better, and I will continue to make sure their voices are heard.” It’s estimated that the policies of over 100,000 Hoosiers on the individual marketplace are at risk because of Obamacare.
