McGinnis Memorial Post Office, U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-5) said today.  Thompson will be joined at the event by members of the McGinnis family, along with representatives from American Legion Post 720 and the Servicemen’s Club of Knox. McGinnis, who was a native of Knox, lost his life in the line of duty on Dec. 4, 2004, while his U.S. Army platoon was on mounted patrol in Adhamiyah, Iraq.  During the course of the patrol, an insurgent on a nearby rooftop threw a grenade into a Humvee carrying McGinnis and other troops.  Without hesitation or regard for his own life, McGinnis threw his body on top of the grenade, saving the lives of his fellow soldiers.  He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor by President George W. Bush in 2008. In response to the bravery shown by Spec. McGinnis, Thompson and Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) sponsored House and Senate bills to designate the Post Office in Knox in memorial of McGinnis. The bill was signed into law by President Obama in June of 2016. WHO: U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson; Members of Spec. Ross A. McGinnis’ family; Members of American Legion Post 720 and the Servicemen’s Club of Knox; and the Pennsylvania Patriot Guard Riders.   WHEN: Monday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m.   WHERE: Knox Post Office, 523 East Railroad Street, Knox.
