In fact, it’s the key to empowerment and a pathway to success in life,” stated Rep. Thompson. Thompson discussed his own career path and described "passion, principles and purpose" as three areas of personal development that he believes are essential to advancing educational and career goals. “I found my passion in service to others. Helping individuals with life-changing disease and disability find health and dignity is what led me into the field of health care,” Rep. Thompson told the students.  “Serving others is also the passion that informed my decision to run for Congress. If you have a passion, choose that path, work hard, and it will enable you to succeed.” Prior to being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, Thompson spent 28 years in a non-profit health care setting as a therapist, rehabilitation services manager and a licensed Nursing Home Administrator. “Congressman Thompson fielded questions from students regarding the Affordable Health Care Act, energy policy, education funding, the Allegheny National Forest and other topics of interest to the students,” stated Amanda Hetrick, Forest Area School District Superintendent. “The discussion was informative and helped our students see that Congressman Thompson is a leader who is accessible and interested in the opinions of his constituents in helping to shape the policies of our nation.” Following the event, Thompson attended a meeting with school board members, community leaders, and economic development representatives during which they discussed matters related to education policy, Secure Rural Schools, and career and technical education programs. In the House, Thompson serves as Co-Chairman of the bipartisan Career and Technical Education Caucus, and on three committees: Education; Natural Resources; and Agriculture.
