Glenn GT Thompson (PA-05) today voted in favor of H.R. 22, the Fixing Americas Surface Transportation Act, which passed by a vote of 359 to 65 and provides for thelong-term authorization of the surface transportation law, helping improve our nations roads, bridges and public transit systems. Appointed by the Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, Thompson served as a representative from the House Natural Resources Committee, to the conference committee tasked with settling differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill. It authorizes $281 billion over the next five years, which is fully offset, providing more certainty for transportation and infrastructure planning. Thompson issued the following statement upon passage: This legislation is respectful of the taxpayers and traveling public, does not raise taxes and ensures long-term certainty for those states, municipalities, and planning organizations responsible for the development of infrastructure projects, maintaining our roads and bridges, along with the operation of public transit systems. I commend my colleague, House Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Bill Shuster (PA-9) on his efforts to make this bill possible.
