The Improving Rural Call Quality and Reliability Act of 2015 (H.R. 2566) passed the House unanimously on November 14, 2016. “Many people across the country take reliable phone service for granted, but for families and businesses in rural communities, dropped calls and poor connectivity are a real problem. Not only is it frustrating, but the inability to make a phone call can be extremely dangerous from a public safety perspective,” Tipton said. H.R. 2566 would ensure that rural communities receive quality phone service by directing the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to establish basic reliability standards for all service providers that transmit voice calls. “In the year 2016, it is absolutely unacceptable that any family or business in the United States wouldn’t have access to reliable phone service,” Tipton added. “This common sense piece of legislation will help ensure that Coloradans know they can contact their family members, conduct outreach to their customers, or reach emergency providers at all times.” H.R. 2566 must now be approved by the full Senate. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
