Cory Gardner, to make sure this water infrastructure package included a provision that will help expedite pending claims and ensure the EPA continues to monitor the water quality in the affected areas.” Title IV, Section 5004 of S. 612 establishes a process for the payment of claims by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the reimbursement of costs that were incurred by states, local government and tribes following the Gold King Mine spill. The bill directs the EPA to submit all claims no later than 180 days after S. 612 is enacted. Section 5004 also directs the EPA to continue conducting water quality monitoring in the area. Title II, Subtitle A of S. 612 says that it is the Sense of Congress that it should provide “robust” funding for the Safe Drinking Water Act and Clean Water Act State Revolving Loan Funds (DWSRFs), both of which provide financing to eligible state and tribal entities for water quality projects. The bill also gives states and tribal entities more flexibility when it comes to using DWSRFs, as well as creates a program to assist small and underserved communities with drinking water services. “Water is the lifeblood of rural farming and ranching communities, and it is arguably the most precious resource in Colorado,” Tipton added. “For rural communities, families, and businesses, the ability to thrive depends on having reliable access to safe and affordable drinking water, and the clean drinking water provisions in this bill will have a big impact on the Third District.” S. 612 is expected to pass the Senate and be sent to the president before the end of the year. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
