Yet the Senate did not hold a single vote on this appropriations legislation because of a self-imposed parliamentary rule that essentially nullifies the majority Republicans hold in that chamber. The result of this dysfunction is the omnibus. I voted against the underlying budget agreement in October that set the guidelines for this massive spending bill because it busts the budget caps, taking away our greatest tool to rein in spending. This omnibus reflects the results of that budget agreement. While some good provisions such as lifting the oil export ban are included, overall the omnibus doesnt do nearly enough to get Washingtons spending under control, and it fails to take action to block the implementation of overreaching Administrative policies that are disastrous for western statesincluding sage grouse designations and the Waters of the U.S. rule. To get Washingtons spending in check and rein in Administrative and bureaucratic overreach, we must have a functional appropriations process that allows for robust debate and negotiation so a fair deal is reached. I commend Speaker Ryan for his leadership and commitment to restoring regular order in the appropriations process next year so that we can better address the serious issues facing our nation, and I look forward to working with him to advance our shared conservative goals. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
