http://titus.house.gov/press-releases/titus-responds-to-governor-s-letter-on-the-government-shutdown Titus Responds to Governor’s Letter on the Government Shutdown 2013-10-09 2013 2013-10 Democrat House NV Dina Titus T000468 titus.house.gov     legacy October 9, 2013   Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District sent a letter to Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval today encouraging him to help end the devastating government shutdown by actively engaging the Republican members of the Nevada delegation.      A copy of the letter can be read here:    Dear Governor Sandoval,   I am in receipt of your October 8, 2013, letter. I share your grave concerns regarding the impact that this unnecessary government shutdown will have on the citizens of the State of Nevada.    To help end this shutdown, I encourage you to actively engage with the Republican members of our Congressional delegation. As you know, Congressional Republicans have decided to close the government rather than allow the Affordable Care Act to be fully implemented. I have been very supportive of your efforts to fully implement the Affordable Care Act and often speak openly about your efforts to ensure the state is ready to help almost 500,000 uninsured Nevadans access high quality, affordable health care for the first time.   This is why I ask you to become more engaged with my Republican colleagues here on Capitol Hill. Although Nevada is already fully implementing the Affordable Care Act, they insist on shutting down the entire government until it is defunded or delayed.  Would it not be better to open government and then work together on improvements to the program?  On our side of the aisle, we have already agreed to a reduced spending level for the 2014 fiscal year. I would have preferred a higher level so that we could properly fund programs that are critical to our state, such as the I-11 Interstate, Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), and English as a Second Language (ESL). I hope that you will encourage our GOP members to say yes to their own proposal and put an end to this devastating and unnecessary shutdown.    I look forward to learning about your efforts.     Sincerely,    Dina Titus Member of Congress 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
