http://titus.house.gov/press-releases/titus-statement-on-nevada-day Titus Statement on Nevada Day 2013-10-31 2013 2013-10 Democrat House NV Dina Titus T000468 titus.house.gov     legacy Las Vegas, NV – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District released the following statement in celebration of Nevada Day:   “Every year on October 31 we pause to celebrate Nevada’s statehood. From Reno to Las Vegas, from the mountains to the desert, from the sage grouse to the neon lights, ‘Home Means Nevada.’    “149 years ago, in the midst of the Civil War and a contentious election, Nevada became the 34th state admitted to the Union. Though we saw our borders shift, our economy struggle at times, and our population contract and expand, the Battle Born State has persevered.   “Today, we also celebrate 149 years of strong Nevada women. From our inception, women like Hannah Clapp and Sarah Winnemucca blazed the way, brokering peace, advocating for education, and demanding the right to vote. In 1914, Nevada became the 11th state to grant women the right to vote, and in 1916 Sadie Hurst became the first woman to be elected to the Nevada state legislature. More recently Florence McClure, Rubie Duncan, Peggy Pierce, and so many more have continued to crack that glass ceiling.     “This Nevada Day, let us celebrate the rich culture that continues to make Nevada so special. Happy Nevada Day." 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
