http://titus.house.gov//press-releases/titus-statement-on-nevada-day-0 Titus Statement on Nevada Day 2014-10-31 2014 2014-10 Democrat House NV Dina Titus T000468 titus.house.gov     legacy October 31, 2014 Las Vegas, NV – Congresswoman Dina Titus of Nevada’s First District released the following statement in celebration of Nevada Day:   “Every year on October 31 we pause to celebrate Nevada’s founding but this year has special meaning as we mark Nevada’s 150th year of statehood. It is a day to reflect on where we have been and where we are going. “One hundred and fifty years ago, the country was split and suffering through the bloodiest war in its history. President Lincoln’s re-election was in jeopardy, and the 13th Amendment to end slavery lacked the votes to pass Congress. Nevada’s acceptance into the Union preserved the Lincoln presidency and ensured ratification of the 13th Amendment and the abolition of slavery. “This unique history proves that though Nevadans rarely do things by the book, we always endure. We may be down, but we are never out. Over the past decade we have seen Nevada hit hard by the housing crisis; unemployment soared; and our economy suffered worse than most during the Great Recession. But we are coming back. New businesses are relocating to the state; our tourism and construction industries are rebounding; and we’ve been chosen as a site for the exciting new FAA Federal UAV testing program.  “We have much on our horizon that can improve our way of life in Nevada. I will continue doing my part in Congress to stand up for working families, take care of our veterans, and give all Nevadans the chance to participate in Nevada’s future through immigration reform. So together let’s take pride in what we have accomplished and look ahead to a future full of opportunity. That is our spirit as citizens of the Battle Born State.       “Happy Nevada Day!” 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
