http://toomey.senate.gov?p=news&id=1210 Sen. Toomey: Congress Should Vote For Tougher Iran Sanctions [press_release] 2013-11-25 2013 2013-11 Republican House PA Patrick Toomey T000461 toomey.senate.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following statement about the nuclear agreement with Iran. "It strikes me that the risks of this deal are far greater than the likely benefits. Iran would not have to halt construction of the nuclear facility at Arak, and there is no requirement for Iran to destroy the facility. Iran would not be required to suspend its uranium enrichment activities as the U.N. has required. The agreement contains no provision regarding Iran's nuclear weaponization program or development of delivery systems, like ballistic missiles. Additionally, the easing of sanctions could undermine the will of the international community to continue enforcing sanctions, return sanctions to their previous level, or impose new sanctions. Finally, the agreement has an expiration date. Beyond that date, Iran is allowed to retain its large nuclear infrastructure and enrichment program. "Despite the Administration's objections, I think the Congress should vote for tougher sanctions as soon as possible." 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
