Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, today released the following statement after being named to serve on the House-Senate conference committee for the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act: “I look forward to being a member of the House-Senate conference committee for this historic tax reform opportunity. We owe it to our constituents to reform the tax code and cut taxes, make it easier for small businesses to grow and create jobs, and lower the astronomically high rate for corporations. We’re full speed ahead on getting this done this year.” Background: As chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy, Upton was named a conferee primarily to negotiate the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) amendment.
