U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, today announced that Western Michigan University is receiving a $249,460 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant funding will be used for a project titled, Preparing Qualified Personnel from Two Master's Degree Programs. Once again Western Michigan University is recognized on the national stage as one of the premier research institutions in the country. WMU continues to make Kalamazoo and all of southwest Michigan proud, Upton said. This federal grant will be critical to helping advance study and research in the field of education. According to the WMU's program description, the research funding will be used to prepare 26 qualified scholars over two master's degree programs in adapted physical education (APE) and positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS. All 26 scholars will be prepared to earn a new combined graduate endorsement over APE and PBIS to serve children with disabilities.
