Following the tour, she joined Congressman Valadao and local health care providers, industry leaders, and patients for a conversation on the health care challenges facing rural regions of the nation, particularly, the Central Valley. During the roundtable discussion, hospital administrators and medical professionals provided insight regarding the unique obstacles rural facilities face. Specifically, participants discussed Medicaid reimbursement rates, workforce shortages, and the need for additional support for teaching health centers. Patients from Californias Twenty First Congressional District shared their personal experiences accessing quality health care in the Central Valley. Congressman Valadao stated, Economic factors, cultural and social differences, educational shortcomings, and the sheer isolation of living in remote areas, have all contributed to health care disparities between rural and urban regions.
