Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced Senate passage of legislation he cosponsored that would prohibit Nazi persecutors who immigrated to the United States following World War II from receiving Social Security benefits. The legislation follows an Oct. 2014 Associated Press report which found the U.S. Justice Department utilized a legal loophole to allow suspected Nazis to retain their Social Security benefits after they renounced their citizenship and left the United States. The legislation passed the Senate on Thursday evening. “The fact that Nazi persecutors supplanted their retirement savings on the backs of American taxpayers is inconceivable and must be stopped immediately,” Brown said. “While these atrocities were committed nearly 70 years ago, the pain and suffering caused by their actions will never be forgotten.”     ### Press Contact Meghan Dubyak/Ben Famous (202) 224-3978 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
