Senator Cardin recently cosponsored a resolution (S. Res. 548), which designated November 29, 2014 as “Small Business Saturday”. “Small Business Saturday gives Americans the chance to support small, independently owned businesses that drive our local economy and create jobs. Buying local makes a real difference,” said Senator Cardin. “We have more than a half-million small businesses right here in Maryland. This Small Business Saturday, make a choice to ‘Shop Small’ or ‘Dine Small’ – support our local stores and dine in local restaurants – to give a helping hand to the very businesses that employ our neighbors and keep our local economy growing.” There are 28,000,000 small businesses in the United States that are responsible for the employment of over 48 percent of private sector employees. By designating November 29, 2014 as Small Business Saturday, Congress is encouraging shoppers to increase the number of purchases made from these local businesses, increasing the benefit to our local communities.
