According to the Government Accountability Office, there were more than 160 different housing programs and tools administered by 20 different federal agencies in 2010. Consequently, Enzi said, there is no coordination, goal-setting or accountability. Our housing programs are not working as well as they should, Enzi said. Finding efficiencies can lead to better services and prevent overspending. This amendment would help to make sure we have good information, which may ultimately get more money to the people who need assistance in a more streamlined way. Enzi's amendment would call for the secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, along with the heads of other federal agencies that administer federal housing assistance, to conduct an interdepartmental review of housing assistance programs; develop a plan to address duplicative, overlapping and fragmented programs; and make recommendations to Congress to streamline programs for efficiency. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
