Gen. Dohrmann on Being Named Adjutant General of the North Dakota National Guard and Director of the ND Department of Emergency Services WASHINGTON Senator John Hoeven today issued this statement following Brigadier General Al Dohrmann being named adjunct general of the North Dakota National Guard and director of the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services: Brigadier General Dohrmann has long served our state and our nation with great dedication, and this appointment recognizes his strong leadership, team building and strategic planning skills. The guidance he demonstrated through his coordination of the 2011 flood response for Bismarck and Mandan was outstanding, and I am confident that he will display that same level of leadership and preparedness as he leads our National Guard and Department of Emergency Service in the years to come. Throughout his career, Al has served with a high level of dedication, which has earned him many awards and honors, including the Legion of Merit, the Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal. Through his service as a board member of the North Dakota Veterans Home Governing Board and the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery Foundation, he has worked hard to ensure that our veterans receive the services and support they need. Als rich experience and commitment to our country make him a perfect fit for this position, I look forward to continuing to work with Al in the future. Brigadier General Al Dohrmann began his military career in 1983, when he accepted his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Army. In 1991, he left active duty and joined the North Dakota Army Guard where he was transferred to the Engineer branch.
