The decision to enter into military service is not one to be taken lightly, nor is it an easy burden to bear. It comes with not only tremendous responsibilities, but great sacrifices. Standing up to serve is something to be commended, something to be respected and something to be honored by all of us who breathe easier and live freely because of those who have defended us at home and abroad. As Alaskans, we have the incredible honor of being surrounded by veterans, more so per capita than any other state in the nation. Veterans are our neighbors, co-workers, family members, and friends. And while theyve already given a selfless gift to our nation, they continue serving their communities long after they take off their uniforms. We can never thank them enough for their courage, sacrifice, and service, but we can, and we must, try. (Click image to watch video.) While words fall short of expressing our appreciation, we pause to honor and thank you for your service this Veterans Day. Words will never be enough to thank you, our veterans, for your selfless actions in making the decision to serve our country, your courage during active duty, and your commitment to our communities when you return home. One of the best ways we can show our gratitude for our veterans is by asking what we, as individuals and as a community, can do for them. Know that here in Washington D.C., I will continue to do all I can to give veterans the services they deserve. Its commonly known the problems that we face in Alaska when it comes to the VA. Weve had more than our fair share of issues, but I will not rest until the earned health care benefit is a reality for all Alaska veterans, wherever in the state they may live. We should remember to live every day appreciating the freedoms and liberties that our military has secured for us and continues to protect. On this Veterans Day, and every other day, we say thank you to those who serve past, present, and future. God bless. Print Email Tweet 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
