U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) released the following statement after President Trump signed H.R. 8276, legislation to waive the statutory limitations and posthumously award the Medal of Honor to Sergeant First Class (SFC) Alwyn Cashe:Sergeant First Class Alwyn Cashe, a native Floridian, served our country with remarkable courage, and he deserves to be awarded the Medal of Honor, Rubio said. I am grateful the President has signed this legislation that will allow his legacy of heroic service to be given the honor and recognition he deserves.Rubio, along with Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR), Rick Scott (R-FL), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Tim Kaine (D-VA), and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), introduced the companion legislation (S. 4661) to honor SFC Cashe, who exemplified the finest traditions of military heroism when he disregarded his own safety and saved the lives of six fellow soldiers despite his serious injuries during Operation Iraqi Freedom in October of 2005.
