WASHINGTON U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation, and the Internet, will convene a hearing titled,The Evolution of Next-Generation Technologies: Implementing MOBILE NOW, tomorrow, December 5, 2019, at10:00 a.m. EST. The hearing, which will be livestreamed here, will examine the implementation of several mandates required by the Making Opportunities for Broadband Investment and Limiting Excessive and Needless Obstacles to Wireless (MOBILE NOW) Act. Witnesses, including Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken, will discuss MOBILE NOW's spectrum provisions and the streamlining of broadband infrastructure deployment on federal lands, among other things. Thune is the author of theMOBILE NOW Act, which was signed into law in 2018. Earlier today, Thune previewed the hearing on the Senate floor. Excerpt from Thune's speech below: And tomorrow, in my role as chairman of the Commerce Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation, and the Internet, I'll be chairing a hearing looking at the progress that has been made in implementing the MOBILE NOW Act. We have a great slate of witnesses testifying, including Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken, who has driven the implementation of advanced mobile broadband technology in Sioux Falls. The MOBILE NOW Act has helped us make progress toward the deployment of 5G, particularly in identifying licensed spectrum that can be used to support 5G deployment in more rural areas.
