http://yoder.house.gov//media-center/press-releases/rep-yoder-votes-yes-on-able-act Rep. Yoder Votes Yes on ABLE Act 2014-12-04 2014 2014-12 Republican House KS Kevin Yoder Y000063 yoder.house.gov     legacy Breaking: ABLE Act Passes House of Representatives Removes barriers to success for Americans with developmental disabilities   Washington, D.C. – Today, the House passed the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act by a vote of 404-17. Congressman Yoder is a cosponsor of the ABLE Act, which amends Section 529 of the Internal Revenue Code to create tax-free savings accounts for individuals with disabilities. After voting in favor of the bill, Yoder released the following statement: “Today, I was proud to preside over the House debate on passing the ABLE Act. Overwhelmingly, my colleagues from both sides of the aisle voted to pass this bill, one eight years in the making. “Rather than forcing families raising children with autism or Down syndrome into bankruptcy, the ABLE Act provides them flexible savings tools to maintain greater financial security and prepare their children for a future of independent living. It does not put more burdens on bureaucratic programs. Instead, it encourages families to save, invest, and become less reliant on support from the federal government. “In our nation, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to realize their dreams and that every American should be equipped with the tools and capabilities to do so. The ABLE Act is a critical step towards allowing some of the most vulnerable Americans among us to have that capability. “Not only did I vote for this bill because it is the right thing to do, but also because of the amazing advocacy of folks like my friends Jawanda and Jonathan Mast, and their daughter Rachel, from Olathe. They fought long and hard to bring this issue to my attention immediately upon my election to Congress, and strongly advocated for its passage ever since. Today, their efforts were rewarded, and I was proud to vote yes with them and so many others on my mind.” ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
