Congressman Ted S. Yoho (R-FL-03) released the following statement on the Omnibus Appropriations Act for FY2016: There is no such thing as a perfect bill on Capitol Hill. If there is, it seems to be a rare occurrence. Unfortunately, this pieced together spending bill is a left over from the Boehner era and I could not in good conscience support it. Like past omnibus bills, this 2,002 page bill was introduced at the last minute and we were not allowed to fully make amendments to curb unnecessary spending. There are portions of this bill that are worthy of support but the bad far outweighed the good. It does lift a 40-year-old ban on our ability to export U.S. crude oil, which will be a boost to our economy, help increase our domestic oil production, and create jobs. There were also provisions to get rid of regulatory red tape that directly affects our nations farmers, provides new resources to combat human trafficking, and strengthens our visa waiver program. These are just a few. However, this spending bill does not address, nor defunds, President Obamas illegal executive amnesty from last year, it does not stop taxpayer funding for abortions, it doesnt go far enough in protecting the country from refugees coming over from the middle east, and more importantly, it doesnt do more to tackle our out of control $18.5 trillion national debt rapidly approaching $20 trillion. I understand Speaker Ryan tried to do the best he could with what Boehner left behind, but this was a missed opportunity. I was one of 95 republicans who wanted something better for the people I represent and for the country. We must stop this out of control President and his misguided policies, fix our broken immigration system, and make bringing down our national debt more of a priority. This legislative year is over and we will start anew in 2016.
